The Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) in Engineering is a comprehensive, research-intensive doctoral program designed to prepare future engineering leaders equipped to address the unique and urgent challenges faced by the Maldives. This program equips students with advanced knowledge and technical expertise to create sustainable engineering solutions that align with the nation’s strategic vision such as Maldives 2.0 initiative. Offered in both full-time and part-time modes, the program enables students to undertake independent, original research under expert supervision. Research projects focus on areas critical to the Maldives’ sustainable development, leveraging relevant laboratories, simulation tools, and data analytics. Students explore pressing engineering challenges that include climate adaptation, renewable energy integration, water resource management, and resilient infrastructure design tailored for island environments. Throughout the program, students engage in activities such as experimental research, computational modeling, prototype development, and advanced data analysis. These approaches cultivate critical thinking and innovation, ensuring graduates are well-prepared to contribute to the evolving needs of the Maldivian engineering sector. Scholarly excellence is fostered through mandatory publication of at least two research papers in internationally recognized journals and presentation of findings at global conferences.
