Overview

In this course we teach Navigation using Astronomical sights, Radar and Visual bearings. Rule of the Road Metereorology and weather reports. Use and Operation of Various Bridge Equipments compulsory to have onboard vessels of 3000 Gross Tonnage and above. Basic Stability, Cargo handling and Ship Construction

Entry Requirements

General Entry

  • i) Completion of Lower Secondary education or attainment of level 3 qualification in a related field OR
  • ii) 18 years old and completion of basic education and 01 year work experience in Maritime Industry (Apply interview) OR
  • iii) Approved seagoing service of not less than 12 months as part of an approved training programme which includes onboard training that meets requirements of Section A-II/I of STCW Code and is documented in an approved training record book OR
  • iv) Have an approved seagoing service of not less than 36 months AND
  • v) Have performed during the required seagoing service, bridge watch keeping duties under supervision of a master or a qualified officer for a period not less than 06 months.

Other Requirements

  • (a) For criteria (iii),(iv) and (v) letter of eligibility from the MINISTRY OF TRANSPORT AND CIVIL AVIATION should be submitted along with the application form (b) All approved sea going service apply to Deck department of ships of 500 gross tonnage or more

General Notes

  • Entry requirements are indicative. Depending on the sequence and the number of applications received, all qualifying students may not gain entry.
  • Circumstances may require the University to defer or cancel some courses, especially when the minimum class size (10 for certificate & diploma courses, 15 for Degrees courses) is not achieved.
  • Passes at GCE OL/SSC and HSC is considered to be grades "C" or above and passes at GCE AL is considered to be the grades "E" or above.
