Overview

The aim of this course is to meet the nation's needs of skilled professional mathematics teachers for the secondary and higher secondary mathematics subjects. To achieve the aims of this program, our participants will study Algebra, Calculus, Statistics, Mechanics, Differential equations which will equip them subject content. In addition students will take educational units like psychology, classroom management, pedagogy and teaching practice etc to equip them with the educational background. This course brings in subject knowledge and applications of mathematics, mathematics teaching and education studies together to equip graduates with right tools to meets all the challenges of teaching mathematics to secondary and higher secondary students. Better teaching of Mathematics leads to better understanding of mathematics which in turn results in the development of science, technology and engineering.

Entry Requirements

General Entry

  • i) Two Passes at GCE A' Level including Mathematics AND Three passes at GCE O' Level/SSC AND a pass in GCE O' Level English or equivalent or satisfactory performance in a written test of English, OR
  • ii) Attainment of a Level 5 qualification in one of the specialized subject AND a pass in GCE O' Level 2nd subject to be specialized AND a pass in GCE O' Level English or equivalent or satisfactory performance in a written test of English, OR
  • iii) Attainment of a level 4 qualification in one of the specialized subject and at least 1 year experience of teaching at secondary level after teaching qualification AND a pass in GCE O' Level English or equivalent or satisfactory performance in a written test of English.
  • iv) Pass in MNU Foundation Studies (C4 level) for the targeted course

General Notes

  • Entry requirements are indicative. Depending on the sequence and the number of applications received, all qualifying students may not gain entry.
  • Circumstances may require the University to defer or cancel some courses, especially when the minimum class size (10 for certificate & diploma courses, 15 for Degrees courses) is not achieved.
  • Passes at GCE OL/SSC and HSC is considered to be grades "C" or above and passes at GCE AL is considered to be the grades "E" or above.
