Overview

Anti-Piracy Awareness (APA) course aims to meet the requirements according to STCW Code, Section A-VI/6, Table A-VI/6-1, and the ISPS Code. This course aims to provide guidance to seafarers on precautions to be taken to reduce the risks of piracy attacks and the possible response to a piracy threat. Scope & Objectives: • Understanding piracy threats and current patterns • Carrying out risk assessments • Preparing to transit high-risk areas • Transiting high-risk areas while monitoring the threat situation • Taking effective action after encountering pirate crafts and how to avoid contact • Familiarization with vessel’s evasive maneuvers during a pirate attack (Bridge Simulator) • Surviving as a hostage • UN safety Decalogue Entry Criteria • Ability to communicate in the medium of instruction (English)
