Overview

The BSW program at MNU offers a broader understanding of the key knowledge, methods, and skills needed for work as a social worker. In addition to the key areas of knowledge, it also provides students with insights into important areas of practice such as child abuse, domestic violence, mental health, drug abuse and addiction, crime, violence, justice, and social policy. Furthermore, the program provides students with the opportunity to practice at a social work agency under supervision, which further enhances their exposure to the field and its responsibilities. This program offers a flexible study arrangement, allowing students to learn through a blended delivery model. Classes are held once a month, and the remaining hours are fulfilled through interactive online learning methods. By joining this course, students can pursue a career in the field of social work with opportunities for practice in a wide range of areas, including child protection, juvenile justice, domestic violence, drug addiction, corrections, prison and parole, social protection, and mental health.

Entry Requirements

General Entry

  • i) Any 2 passes in GCE A Level/HSC OR Equivalent OR,
  • ii) Pass in MNQF Level 4 certificate in a related field OR,
  • iii) Successful completion of related Foundation (Certificate 4) offered by Maldives National University.

Language Requirements

  • i) Pass in GCE O' Level/IGCSE English language or equivalent or satisfactory performance in an English language entrance exam administered by the Maldives National University

General Notes

  • Entry requirements are indicative. Depending on the sequence and the number of applications received, all qualifying students may not gain entry.
  • Circumstances may require the University to defer or cancel some courses, especially when the minimum class size (10 for certificate & diploma courses, 15 for Degrees courses) is not achieved.
  • Passes at GCE OL/SSC and HSC is considered to be grades "C" or above and passes at GCE AL is considered to be the grades "E" or above.
