Overview

Occupational health and safety (OHS) remain a highly neglected area of health in Maldives. At present, Maldives is experiencing many occupational injuries, illness and accidents due to insufficient awareness, recognition and control of workplace hazards. One of the major challenges for this problem has been identified as lack of competent and skilled OHS professionals in the field. This course is expected to meet the national need of development of occupational health and safety experts and enhance workplace health and wellbeing. It will develop competency to develop safe systems of work and manage occupational risk and hazards, to provide safe working conditions for workers in all workplaces. In addition, it will provide opportunity to develop the ability to address health and safety problems at national, organizational and community levels by developing standards, policies, law enforcement and undertaking research in the field.

Entry Requirements

General Entry

i) Minimum 2 Pass in GCE A' Level, OR
ii) Attainment of a Level 4 qualification in a related field approved by the Maldives Qualification Authority, OR
iii) Successful completion of Foundation Studies (Certificate 4) offered by Maldives National University.

Alternative Entry

i) 20 years old, completion of a Level 4 qualification (unrelated), and successful completion of MNU approved University Preparation Program OR
ii) 20 years old, completion of secondary school, 2 years of relevant work experience, and successful completion of MNU approved University Preparation Program

Language Requirements

i) Certified proficiency in English (GCE O' Level/IGCSE English/MNU English Language Competency

General Notes

Entry requirements are indicative. Depending on the sequence and the number of applications received, all qualifying students may not gain entry.
Circumstances may require the University to defer or cancel some courses, especially when the minimum class size (10 for certificate & diploma courses, 15 for Degrees courses) is not achieved.
Passes at GCE OL/SSC and HSC is considered to be grades "C" or above and passes at GCE AL is considered to be the grades "E" or above.
