Overview

The Postgraduate Diploma in Higher Education course is designed for graduate students, content-experts without formal teaching qualifications, and post- doctoral fellows across the disciplines who want to develop as skilled and confident tertiary-level instructors and lecturers. The primary goal of the course is to facilitate the professional learning of academic staff in higher education by developing their knowledge of the dynamics of higher education including pedagogical, andragogical, and technological principles and theories and models of leadership and management pertaining to higher educational context. Using seminars, readings, collaborative work, action research and independent study, the course equips learners with knowledge, skills, and attributes that are needed to work confidently in teaching and learning, assessing, supervising, coaching and mentoring, and leading in higher educational context in the 21st century.

Entry Requirements

General Entry

  • i) A bachelor's degree in a related field

Alternative Entry

  • i) 25 years old, completion of a related Level 5 qualification, and 6 years of relevant experience (of which 3 years of experience is obtained after completion of a Level 5 qualification) and achieved a pass rating from an interview or exam given by the institute, OR
  • ii) 25 years old, completion of a related Level 6 qualification, and 4 years of relevant experience (of which 2 years of experience is obtained after the completion of a Level 6 qualification), and achieved a pass rating from an interview or exam given by the institute

Language Requirements

  • 'C' pass or above in IGCSE English or Equivalent or a pass in English Language Competency Exam or successful completion of a bachelor's degree in English medium.

General Notes

  • Entry requirements are indicative. Depending on the sequence and the number of applications received, all qualifying students may not gain entry.
  • Circumstances may require the University to defer or cancel some courses, especially when the minimum class size (10 for certificate & diploma courses, 15 for Degrees courses) is not achieved.
  • Passes at GCE OL/SSC and HSC is considered to be grades "C" or above and passes at GCE AL is considered to be the grades "E" or above.
