Overview

The new outcome based curriculum includes foundation years which incorporate Lower Kindergarten and Upper Kindergarten and for teachers to teach this curriculum, they need proper training. Hence, there exists a national need for trained preschool teachers. After completion of Bachelor of Education in Early Childhood (Honours) they will be able to teach from Kindergarten level to grade three.

Entry Requirements

General Entry

  • i) Two passes at GCE AL/HSC or equivalent, and 3 passes at GCE OL/IGCSE/SSC including Dhivehi, OR
  • ii) MQA approved teaching qualification at Level 4, OR
  • iii) Completion of MNU level 4 Foundation Studies target program or Completion of Advance Certificate in Education.

General Notes

  • Entry requirements are indicative. Depending on the sequence and the number of applications received, all qualifying students may not gain entry.
  • Circumstances may require the University to defer or cancel some courses, especially when the minimum class size (10 for certificate & diploma courses, 15 for Degrees courses) is not achieved.
  • Passes at GCE OL/SSC and HSC is considered to be grades "C" or above and passes at GCE AL is considered to be the grades "E" or above.

Careers

The Bachelor of Teaching Primary provides national primary school teaching recognition. Graduates who are interested in being extended through an advanced level of study, may apply to a rich postgraduate program offered at the Faculty of Education, MNU. Master’s degrees include research courses and projects supervised experts in the field of study along with rich content courses, which prepares students for higher degrees by research.
