Overview
Arabic Language is the Language of Islam. The Glorious Quran and the Traditions of the Prophet Mohamed (Allah’s Peace and Blessing be upon him) is in Arabic Language. Maldives being an Islamic state with a 100% Muslim population, Arabic Language is given a special place in the heart of the Maldivians. Still there are people in the country who can testify that they learned Arabic as the second language before English took hold of the position some sixty odd years ago. Apart from those daily prayers are performed in Arabic and Thousands of Maldivians are going to Saudi Arabia to perform Hajj and lot are associated with Arab countries for business purpose. The need to learn Arabic is not only to perform religious duties but also to thrive in their business. The intention of this program is to give an opportunity for Maldivians to acquire foundation of Arabic Language so they can understand their religious duties as well as to create a pathway to study more advanced Arabic program.
Entry Requirements
General Entry
- i) Three passes in GCE O' Level/IGCSE/SSC or equivalent; OR
- ii) Attainment of a Level 3 qualification OR
Alternative Entry
- i) 18 years of age and 1 year experience AND Ability to communicate in language instruction
General Notes
- Entry requirements are indicative. Depending on the sequence and the number of applications received, all qualifying students may not gain entry.
- Circumstances may require the University to defer or cancel some courses, especially when the minimum class size (10 for certificate & diploma courses, 15 for Degrees courses) is not achieved.
- Passes at GCE OL/SSC and HSC is considered to be grades "C" or above and passes at GCE AL is considered to be the grades "E" or above.
