Faculty of Health Science
The center was opened on 1 September 1973 as the Allied Health Services Training Centre. On 13 January 1975, the special building was opened for the Allied Health Services Training Centre. On 1 September 1991, the Government changed the name of the Center to Institute of Health Sciences (IHS). With the establishment of Maldives Higher Education (MCHE) on 1 October 1998, the custody of IHS was transferred to MCHE and on 01 February 2001, the Faculty of Health Sciences (FHS) was established. FHS training expanded further with the establishment of MCHE campuses in the north and south of the country. The main activities of the Faculty of Health Sciences include of training people in the health sector. The first course taught in the faculty was the training of community health workers. The two courses that followed were for the training of community health workers and nurses. However, the field has gradually expanded and now the faculty offers courses in nine different fields ranging from Advanced certificate to Masters degrees.

Life at Faculty of Health Science
The Faculty of Health Sciences (FHS) has a notable history as the oldest training unit at Maldives National University, established in 1973 as the Allied Health Services Training Centre. Throughout its existence, FHS has remained dedicated to providing comprehensive education and training across various disciplines. These encompass a range of fields such as Public Health, Primary Health Care, Occupational Health and Safety, Health Service Management, Medical Laboratory Science, Counselling, Psychology, Social Work, Physiotherapy, and Pharmacy. The primary goal of the Faculty of Health Sciences at Maldives National University (MNU) is to produce skilled healthcare professionals capable of contributing to the enhancement of health and well-being in the Maldives. The faculty offers undergraduate and postgraduate programs covering a broad spectrum of health sciences disciplines, including medicine, nursing, pharmacy, public health, and other allied health professions. The curriculum is carefully designed to equip students with the necessary knowledge, skills, and practical experience essential for addressing the healthcare needs of the community.
